What we are studying
GazeStudy is a software research project operated by Magura Digital OÜ. We study the relationship between front-camera images, the position of a visual target, and how a phone is held. We use the recordings to develop and evaluate gaze-estimation methods. This is not a medical assessment, diagnosis, or treatment.
Who can take part
The study is for adults aged 18 or older, using a compatible iPhone with iOS 17 or later and a front camera. No special eye-tracking equipment is required. Take part only if you are comfortable recording and sharing images of your face. You may wear your usual glasses or contact lenses.
What you will do
Read the information and consent in the app, permit front-camera access, and check your position. Follow five initial markers, then a series of markers in a few comfortable positions. Read briefly and finish with returning markers. Do not move in a way that feels uncomfortable. You can pause or stop.
How long it takes
The active task allows up to 3 minutes 12 seconds. Camera setup, instructions, readiness pauses, and upload add time. The upload duration depends on your connection. Keep the app until it confirms your upload, or reopen it to retry.
What is recorded
During the camera check and study capture, the app processes front-camera images. Study frames are saved as JPEG images alongside target positions, display layout, device information, timing, and capture-quality evidence. Face and eye landmarks help assess the recording. No microphone audio is recorded. Reading is recorded as a task; the app does not assess your comprehension or diagnose attention.
Your choice, throughout
Participation is voluntary. You can decline without using the camera, stop the task, or request deletion afterwards. Stopping can leave a partial recording saved for upload; stopping alone is not a deletion request. The app explains this and retains files needed to recover interrupted uploads. See how to withdraw a recording.
Risks and benefits
Images of your face can identify you and may show people or objects behind you. Choose a quiet place with a plain background and keep other people out of view. Looking at a screen or changing position may cause discomfort; stop if it does. There is no promised personal benefit, payment, or specific accuracy result. Any separately agreed recruitment payment must be explained before participation.
Taking part
The pilot is currently arranged through direct study invitations. There is no public App Store download link on this site yet. If you have an invitation, use the installation instructions supplied with it. You can ask about participation or a technical problem by emailing artur.zhdan@gptinf.com.
